Microwaves for pest-control in wood packaging materials
The 8th Session of Commission on Phytosanitary Measures (CPM), hold in Rome at FAO HQs, on 8-12 April 2013, has officially approved the Dielectric Heating (DH) treatment as new phytosanitary measure to be included in the International Standard, ISPM No. 15, regulating the actions to reduce the spread of quarantine pests occurring through international shipping of infested wood packaging material and representing a threat to the whole ecosystem.
The DH treatment and method was submitted in 2004 to the FAO Authorities, responsible for evaluating new pest-control measures, by EMitech srl. This was the first step of a long journey which finally ends with the CPM official approval proving that EMitech’s hard work, over the years, has been successful.
Very soon we shall see microwave treatments coming into the market place for this new application!
